Goal 2 – Design and develop effective and engaging learning experiences, environments, resources, and assessments
Example 1: Prezi, an online presentation tool, is an engaging and effective way to disseminate information for all types of learners. Therefore, I created a Prezi training in the Educational Design course at CUW. During this course, I followed the ADDIE instructional design model, during which I analyzed the intended audience, designed performance objectives and assessments, developed the actual lessons for the training, planned for implementation, and then developed evaluations for the course. This artifact meets Goal 2 because it shows how I can use a research-proven method for instructional design to create a professional development opportunity for my colleagues that is centered around using new technologies for teaching and learning. Once teachers go through the training, the hope is that they will be able to transfer what they've learned into their classroom.
Example 2: These screenshots are from a course that I created, called 8th Grade Inquiry. This course is designed around the Big 6, which is a six-stage model that guides students to solve problems or make decisions by using information. This model promotes the learning of information literacy and technology skills. It helps students to define the problem and identify the information needed, determine possible sources and select the best to use, locate the sources and information, use the information and extract relevant information, organize information from multiple sources and present it, and judge the product and process to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the model. This artifact meets Goal 2 because I was able to develop a learning environment that encourages students to use digital-age learning skills, such as online collaboration, online presentation of information, and online research. Also, since this course was a model for other courses at the middle and high school to be developed, it shows how I can change the way my school district conducts teaching and learning.
